"CHASING ICE": NOAA Administrator Dr. Jane Lubchenco tells us about an important, new documentary film -- with stunning cinematography -- that's making the rounds in the theaters:

Timeline Photos
A number of years ago, gifted artist James Balog conceived the audacious idea of taking time-lapse photos of glaciers in some of the most remote places on the planet, despite the physical, logistical, and technical challenges. You can now follow his journey and see his stunning and sobering images in Balog’s and Jeff Orlowski’s just-released film "Chasing Ice" (http://www.chasingice.com/). Watch glaciers disappear, immense ice massifs calve, and ice cook down in glacial moulins. Admire stunning colors, shapes and textures of ice. Enjoy Joshua Bell’s and Scarlett Johansson’s music. And appreciate the ingenuity, sacrifice and temerity required to bring the world this tangible evidence of climate change. Read more about this powerful film at http://www.chasingice.com. You can also view the "Chasing Ice" trailer at http://youtu.be/eIZTMVNBjc4 and read a recent review at http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20121114/REVIEWS/121119995 [Photo credit: Chasing Ice LLC.]

G2-Geomagnetic Storms in full effect. If you are up North, please go outside to see if you can see the Aurora. Attached is a model that we produce here at SWPC that forecasts where the Aurora should be from solar wind measurements. These elevated levels are due to CME effects. When a CME arrives here at Earth, one of the most important aspects is the magnetic structure. Sometimes the magnetic structure is so mixed up, it has little or no effect here at Earth, other times, like today, the structure or orientation is that which really effects Earth.
