In The Wake of Giants - Streaming Now =>

When humpback whales migrating between Alaska and Hawaii become entangled in marine debris, a small network of well-trained volunteer rescuers risk their lives to save them.

Shot almost entirely on research cameras mounted on the helmets of rescuers themselves, this short documentary takes you into the boat within close range of the struggling whales.

The effort is led by the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary's Ed Lyman. He's the marine mammal response manager responsible for recruiting and training volunteers from Hawaii's local communities.

Film maker Lou Douros will introduce In The Wake of Giants at our Cinevents sponsered screening events. Lou's work with fishermen in Alaska and rescuers in both Alaska and Hawaii gives him a unique perspective into the problem and some of the solutions being used to keep large mammals out of harm's way.

Lou is an award winning filmmaker and is currently producing the sequel to this movie Northern Wake. This screening event and any streaming views from our site will directly benefit production of Northern Wake (sneak preview link here), a deeper exploration into the challenges faced by whales sharing an environment with commercial and sports fishermen, conservationists and ocean managers.

In The Wake Of Giants has now won three film festival awards and received numerous nominations.

Most recently the film was nominated for an Emmy award. It has also won awards in Rome, IT, (Special Jury Award for Feature Documentary at the PELAGOS Film Festival of the Sea, Best Conservation Film at the 2011 San Francisco Ocean Film Festival and in 2010 won Best Marine Sanctuary Short Film at the Blue Ocean Film Festival.
